[Remote] National Account Manager – Coil Coatings

Trylak is a leading global manufacturer of high-performance industrial coatings seeking an experienced National Account Manager specializing in Coil Coatings. The role involves managing and growing relationships with a Tier-1 national account, requiring a blend of commercial acumen and technical expertise to ensure successful execution and organic growth opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary commercial and strategic lead for our largest existing national coil coatings customer, nurturing multi-level relationships across procurement, plant operations, quality assurance, and executive leadership
- Spend approximately 3 days per week traveling to customer manufacturing facilities, corporate headquarters, and line trials to provide face-to-face support and maintain a deep operational partnership
- Coordinate and oversee technical line trials for new product introductions, color matches, or formulation adjustments, collaborating closely with the customer's line technical teams and our internal R&D
- Lead joint business planning, price management (including raw material index tracking), and long-term contract renewals to protect and expand profitability
- Act as the critical link between the customer and internal teams—including Technical Service, R&D, Supply Chain, and Plant Operations—to ensure strict adherence to delivery schedules, quality standards, and technical specifications
- Monitor industry trends in building products, appliances, or automotive sectors (wherever coil coatings are applied) to proactively offer innovative, sustainable coating solutions (e.g., energy-efficient or low-VOC formulations) to the client
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Business, or a related technical/commercial field
- 5+ years of proven success in account management or technical sales specifically within the coil coatings, liquid industrial coatings, or metal pre-treatment industries
- Deep understanding of the coil coating application process (e.g., continuous line painting, curing ovens, substrate preparation for steel/aluminum) and relevant end-markets like metal roofing, cladding, or appliances
- Demonstrated track record of successfully managing multi-million-dollar, multi-site industrial accounts
- Ability and enthusiasm to travel up to 60% of the time (typically 3 days a week) to support customer plant locations
- Strong negotiation, analytical problem-solving, and the ability to translate complex technical specifications into commercial value propositions
