[Remote] Technical Manager- Electrical Engineering- Solar
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Ulteig is a leading company in the renewable energy industry, currently seeking a Solar Engineering Manager to lead a team of solar engineers. The role involves managing engineering activities on large utility-scale solar projects, providing technical leadership, and overseeing team growth and business development.
Responsibilities
- Manages and leads all engineering activities during the proposal, design, and construction stages of projects including but not limited to managing engineering scope to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules
- Provides project oversight, including managing engineering scope according to technical contracts, developing change orders, and maintaining project schedules
- Work with customers (Developers, EPCs, Utilities, and Owner/Operators) to ensure client and project expectations and success factors are understood and addressed
- Provide technical leadership and coordination on large utility scale solar projects involving multi-discipline teams
- Provide creative solutions for complex solar development opportunities
- Maintains high levels of quality, responsiveness, and accountability to meet internal and external client project requirements in alignment with company expectations
- Responsible for reviewing project drawings, calculations & specifications, assumes responsible charge as needed
- Assure quality in design work by developing and following internal QA/QC methods
- Work with the Ulteig Senior Leadership team to lead the solar service offering and strategic planning
- Grow and lead a collaborative team to ensure key functional needs are met
- Coordinate communication and provide status updates to stakeholders as required
- Participate with cross-functional teams on strategic initiatives for the company and/or department
- Maintain and grow positive team culture
- Provide strategic direction, leadership, and technical services oversight for employees on achieving individual, team, department, and organizational performance goals
- Create and manage team budget for financial responsibility. Includes but is not limited to revenue, profitability, and indirect expenses (training costs, reward and recognition costs, team event costs, etc.)
- Coach, train, and develop engineering technical staff for growth and development opportunities. Responsible for regular 1:1 meetings, career development discussions, succession planning, quarterly reviews, individual promotions, team retention, and yearly team engagement survey results
- Actively manage team resource planning along with cross-team and cross-office resourcing collaboration, individual performance reviews, individual annual merit and bonus decisions, training, and professional development for team members
- Support the role of hiring manager as well as company-wide hiring for successful growth which includes; regular evaluation of candidate resumes, technical phone screens, collaboration with HR partners, and regular interviews and debrief assessments
- Aid in the development and management of strategic accounts and proposals
- Supports proposal efforts by developing, providing resources, and reviewing proposals by working with Proposal Development Team and Client Solutions group
- Maintains and builds positive client relationships
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical and or electrical engineering, or related engineering field
- Professional Engineer (PE or PEng registration or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire) strongly preferred
- Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic, and collaborative attitude
- Strong business acumen and industry knowledge
- Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and PV design, including plant layout and performance modeling, modules, inverters, racking, and DC/AC collection systems
- Strong understanding of project performance and cost drivers
- Strong skills in solar project optimization for performance, cost, and constructability
- Experience with early-stage solar development projects
- Demonstrate the ability to be organized and work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities
- Must be able to prepare clear and concise status updates and reports as required
- Focused and passionate about internal engagement and maximizing the development of others
- Strong communication and client relationship skills
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and industry standards a plus
- Proven experience in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Must be able to travel to project/client sites as required (approximately 5-15%)
- If working remote must have reliable high speed internet capabilities
- Must have authorization to work permanently in the United States or Canada
- Minimum of 7 years of solar project design and 3 years of team leadership (solar or non-solar) experience is preferred
