[Remote] Head of Software Engineering
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Lineal is a global legal technology company transforming how organizations manage legal data through advanced software and AI. They are seeking a Head of Development to lead their global software engineering organization, establishing engineering vision and strategy while mentoring teams to deliver innovative software products at scale.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for Lineal's global software engineering organization
- Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers, architects, software engineers, and technical leaders
- Scale the engineering organization while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Provide strategic leadership for Lineal's cloud architecture and engineering strategy in partnership with senior architects and technical leaders
- Lead engineering teams responsible for delivering software across seven global cloud regions
- Partner closely with Product Management and Design to deliver innovative, customer-focused software products
- Establish and continuously improve Lineal's software development lifecycle, engineering standards, and delivery methodologies
- Lead the adoption of AI throughout the software development lifecycle to improve engineering productivity, software quality, and delivery velocity
- Drive the development of AI-powered products and intelligent platform capabilities
- Lead the development of Lineal's next-generation agentic AI platform supporting our service delivery ecosystem
- Establish engineering standards focused on scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, and performance
- Define and monitor engineering KPIs focused on quality, delivery, operational excellence, reliability, and team effectiveness
- Develop engineering staffing plans, organizational design, and technology roadmap recommendations aligned with company objectives
- Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional engineering talent while building future engineering leaders
- Collaborate with executive leadership to align engineering priorities with the company's strategic vision
Skills
- 10+ years of experience within a software product organization
- 10+ years leading and scaling software engineering teams
- Experience managing multiple levels of engineering leadership
- Deep technical background building modern SaaS and web-based applications
- Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL database architectures
- Experience developing AI-powered software products
- Experience integrating AI tools into the software development lifecycle
- Experience partnering closely with Product Management using customer-centric frameworks such as Jobs to be Done
- Strong understanding of Agile software development, DevSecOps, CI/CD, and modern software engineering practices
- Experience establishing engineering quality standards around scalability, reliability, security, performance, and maintainability
- Experience with Kubernetes, containerized platforms, AWS Lambda, serverless architectures, and modern cloud-native technologies
- Experience leading engineering organizations built around cross-functional autonomous teams such as Pods, Squads, or similar delivery models
- Proven ability to build scalable engineering organizations, platforms, and delivery processes
- Outstanding communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Experience in Legal Technology, eDiscovery, compliance technology, or enterprise SaaS
- Experience operating globally distributed software platforms across multiple cloud regions
- Experience leading enterprise AI transformation initiatives
- Experience scaling engineering organizations within high-growth technology companies
