Role OverviewPlanet Bee Foundation seeks an experienced STEM educator to support and strengthen existing environmental STEM education programs. This flexible, remote contractor role is focused on improving student-facing learning materials, developing teacher support resources, and helping ensure that Planet Bee programs are clear, engaging, classroom-ready, and responsive to educator and student needs. This role is not intended to build a full curriculum from scratch. Instead, the STEM Education Coordinator will enhance existing materials, create supplemental learning supports, improve instructional clarity, and offer practical input on classroom implementation. The ideal contractor has classroom teaching experience, understands hands-on and inquiry-based learning, and can translate science and environmental concepts into clear, student-friendly materials. This role may be a good fit for an educator who is currently out of the classroom, in transition, semi-retired, or seeking meaningful part-time education work.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Materials Support
- Create and enhance student-facing STEM materials, including worksheets, activities, reflection prompts, learning supports, and classroom extensions.
- Refine existing educational materials for clarity, usability, age-appropriateness, and student engagement.
- Support alignment between Planet Bee’s environmental STEM programs and classroom learning goals.
Teacher Support & Program Implementation
- Develop and refine teacher-facing resources that support successful program delivery and classroom follow-up.
- Communicate with classroom teachers, as helpful and appropriate, to support implementation, clarify program logistics, and gather feedback.
- Identify opportunities to improve materials based on teacher feedback, student needs, and program goals.
Coordination & Collaboration
- Participate in occasional remote check-ins with the Executive Director or designated Planet Bee staff.
- Provide light coordination and documentation related to assigned education projects.
- Collaborate with Planet Bee staff to prioritize project-based work within the expected weekly time commitment.
Qualifications
Required
- Classroom teaching experience in STEM, science, environmental science, elementary education, middle school education, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of hands-on, inquiry-based learning and classroom dynamics.
- Experience adapting, enhancing, or supplementing instructional materials.
- Ability to create clear, engaging, student-friendly learning resources.
- Strong written communication, organization, and attention to detail.
- Comfort communicating with teachers and supporting classroom implementation.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and basic digital collaboration tools.
- Passion for environmental education, pollinators, STEM learning, youth engagement, and community impact.
Preferred
- Several years of classroom teaching experience.
- Experience working with elementary or middle school students.
- Experience developing teacher guides, worksheets, classroom extensions, or informal STEM learning materials.
- Familiarity with environmental education, garden education, outdoor learning, community science, or conservation education.
- Experience supporting nonprofit, school-based, or informal education programs.
Time & Structure This is a remote, flexible independent contractor role averaging approximately 4–5 hours per week. Work may include materials development, review and revision of existing resources, teacher support, light coordination, and occasional check-ins with Planet Bee leadership. Responsibilities will be project-based and prioritized in collaboration with the Executive Director or designated Planet Bee staff.
Compensation
This is an independent contractor position compensated at $45/hour.
