[Remote] Supervisor, Research Accountant
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Supervisor, Research Accountant to manage a large portfolio of sponsored projects and supervise a team of research accountants. The role involves ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency in managing sponsored funds while supporting the professional development of team members.
Responsibilities
- Manages a personal portfolio of sponsored awards, providing full post-award financial support including grants master data maintenance in the accounting system, billing, reporting, and closeout
- Supervises a team of research accountants, offering day-to-day guidance, workload balance, performance feedback, and professional development support
- Reviews and approves team members’ work, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with institutional policies, federal regulations, and sponsor requirements
- Acts as a subject matter expert and escalation point for complex financial or compliance issues
- Facilitates clear communication between central administration, departments, and faculty regarding grant-related policies, procedures, and best practices
- Identifies opportunities for process improvements and contributes to policy and systems development
- Serves as a role model by balancing independent portfolio management with effective leadership and collaboration across the team
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
- Four years of experience in research administration, sponsored programs or grants accounting
- This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment
- Prior people management experience including supervising, mentoring, or informally leading staff; team lead or supervisory experience
- Strong working knowledge of Uniform Guidance, federal sponsor requirements, and institutional research policies
- Proficiency with grant management and financial systems, as well as advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, etc.)
- Experience with financial models
- Experience in a healthcare environment
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
