[Remote] Staff AI Engineer ($200-$250k) AI-Native Commerce Platform
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. CoffeeSpace is recruiting for a high-growth commerce technology company that is building an AI-native platform for DTC operators. The Staff AI Engineer will be responsible for building the technical foundation of the next-generation storefront platform, focusing on architecture, coding, and system design to enhance merchant experiences through AI collaboration.
Responsibilities
- You’ll help build the technical foundation for the company’s next-generation storefront platform
- This is a hands-on Staff Engineer role, not a management role
- You will write code, design systems, drive architecture decisions, and own technical outcomes across the storefront layer
- The core payments and checkout infrastructure already exists and operates at scale. Your focus will be building the next layer: a storefront system where merchants and AI agents collaborate to create high-converting landing pages, advertorials, and buyer journeys
- You’ll work closely with the Engineering Lead for Storefronts and the Product Lead shaping the vision for this product area
- You’ll own the architecture behind an AI-native storefront builder, including the component framework, rendering pipeline, template engine, live preview system, and builder APIs
- You’ll build and expand the AI infrastructure that enables agent-driven workflows, including agent orchestration, tool calling, schema-constrained generation, MCP server evolution, and feedback loops
- You’ll make architectural decisions around API contracts, service boundaries, data modeling, system performance, and platform reliability
- You’ll help build autonomous deployment and optimization pipelines that allow storefront pages to be generated, tested, validated, deployed, and optimized with increasing levels of automation
- You’ll work on performance-critical rendering systems, including SSR, streaming rendering, CDN caching, edge delivery, and Core Web Vitals
- You’ll also help drive reliability across observability, tracing, SLOs, and incident response
Skills
- 8+ years of experience building web platforms, with clear Staff-level technical impact
- Strong hands-on experience building AI or LLM-powered systems, especially agentic systems, orchestration layers, autonomous workflows, or tool-calling infrastructure
- Expert-level with TypeScript and Node.js, and deeply experienced with React or Angular
- Strong API design, systems design, testing, and data modeling instincts across relational, document, and cache systems
- Comfortable operating in production environments where reliability, observability, performance, and customer impact matter
- High-ownership builder who can operate with autonomy, make technical decisions, and ship durable systems without waiting for perfect instructions
- Experience with Shopify, Liquid, CMS systems, page builders, or storefront infrastructure would be highly relevant
- Experience with SSR, streaming, caching, edge delivery, and performance-sensitive rendering systems would be a strong plus
- Experience with MCP, agent infrastructure, developer tooling, infrastructure products, direct response commerce, or performance commerce would also be valuable
