[Remote] Sr Data Scientist - Data Scientist Advisor

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Federal Express Corporation is seeking qualified applicants for Sr Data Scientist and Data Scientist Advisor positions. The role involves providing expertise and leadership in data analytics and statistical modeling, mentoring staff, and driving decision making through advanced data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and executes solutions form initial concept to fully tested production and communicates results to a broad range of audiences
  • Advanced use of current and emerging technologies to evaluate trends and develop actionable insights and recommendations to management, via understanding of the business model and the information available for analysis
  • Uses data, statistical and quantitative analysis, explanatory and high complexity predictive modeling and fact-based management to drive decision making
  • Mentors less senior staff
  • Leads cross functional teams
  • Routinely work on multiple highly complex assignments
  • Provides consultation to senior leadership on a normal basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Performs both qualitative analysis (e.g., content analysis, phenomenology, hypothesis testing, network analysis, sentiment analysis, and classification) and quantitative analysis (e.g., clustering regression, pattern recognition, descriptive and inferential statistics) on large data sets to understand trends and relationships between variables to gain predictive insights and drive business results
  • Designs and implements experiments to answer targeted questions, solve known issues and suggest/influence the direction of the business by effectively communicating with business partners and functional leaders to understand and prioritize key business challenges
  • Guides others in the collection of new data, refinement strategy, researches, tests, recommends, and implements improvements in the tools and techniques used by FedEx to manage and access data and information
  • Prioritizes problems so that the team works on the most valuable cases; leads investigations into multiple streams of data to solve complex business problems
  • Designs and implements reporting dashboards that track and visually communicate key business metrics and provide actionable insights
  • Identifies internal and external information sources, builds strong working relationships with subject matter experts and leadership within FedEx and the external marketplace
  • Act as primary author of whitepapers and will present various industry topics as it relates to Data Science at conferences
  • Collaborates with IT departments and communicates changes in industry trends and techniques to ensure the team is current with tools, knowledge and methods
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, applied mathematics, data analytics, statistics or related quantitative field
  • Five years' work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, operations analysis, marketing analysis, simulation and/or predictive analytics
  • Superior analytical skills with diverse analytics and statistical software and applications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline required
  • Seven (7) years experience required in solving analytics problems through the application of data science techniques or work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, solutions implementation, operations analysis, marketing analysis, simulation development and/or predictive analytics
  • Experience Should Include Using Most Of The Following: Machine Learning Frameworks: SKLearn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLlib, and other core ML frameworks
  • Programming Languages: Python, Scala, R, C++, Java, and other modern languages
  • Data Tools and Frameworks: MLFlow, Databricks, Spark, Kafka, Hive, Hadoop, and others
  • Cloud Environments: Azure, AWS, etc
  • SQL (Structured Query Language)
  • ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) concepts, query performance tuning and testing
  • Visualization tools such as Tableau, Spotfire, and Power BI
  • Demonstrated superior analytical skills with diverse analytics, data types and statistical software and applications
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, written, and oral communication skill
  • Ability to design mathematical algorithms that employ predictive and machine learning models
  • Ability to understand how new tools/methodology can be implemented to solve business problems
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical journals, reports, and related documents
  • Ability to effectively present information to management, end users, co-workers, or vendors
  • Ability to perform complex tasks with limited direction
  • Proficient with MS office applications
