[Remote] Software Engineer III – IntelliScript (Remote)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Milliman is a respected consultancy that develops data-driven software-as-a-service products for insurance clients. The Software Engineer III will design and deliver scalable backend services and data pipelines, working closely with various teams to create solutions that meet market needs and enhance product offerings.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and optimize data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, enrichment, and distribution of structured and unstructured data
- Develop event-driven and batch data processing systems using AWS-native services
- Integrate backend application services with data pipelines, ensuring consistency between transactional and analytical systems
- Modernize legacy systems into microservices and event-driven architectures in AWS
- Implement data reliability and quality mechanisms (validation, monitoring, observability, and error handling)
- Build and maintain data workflows and orchestration pipelines to ensure timely and accurate data delivery
- Ensure systems are designed for performance, scalability, security, and compliance
- Mentor engineers and contribute to raising the team’s engineering maturity and delivery quality
- Collaborate in SAFe Agile teams, delivering measurable outcomes aligned to product and platform objectives
- Support production operations, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of system performance
Skills
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering with significant focus on data pipeline development and backend systems
- Strong proficiency in C# (.NET) and SQL, with experience working with large-scale data systems
- Hands-on experience building and operating data pipelines and data processing systems
- Experience with AWS data and compute services
- Experience with microservices and event-driven architecture
- Strong understanding of data modeling, data integration, and data lifecycle management
- Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, GitHub workflows, and Terraform
- Working knowledge of Agile/SAFe delivery models
- Experience with full software development lifecycle
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills across both application and data layers
- Ability to design resilient, scalable, and observable data systems
- Proven ability to own pipeline reliability, performance, and data quality outcomes
- Excellent collaborative skills, work well independently and as a team member
- Proven analytical skills to interpret and implement business and functional requirements
- Continued education and/or advanced degree(s)
- Experience building production-grade data pipelines using AWS data services
- Experience with real-time or streaming data architectures
- Familiarity with data warehouse and lakehouse architectures
- Experience implementing data observability, lineage, and governance practices
- Experience working in regulated data environments (e.g., healthcare, HIPAA, or financial data systems)
- Strong understanding of digital health data—experience with EHR systems, FHIR/HL7 interoperability, or data integration is highly preferred
- Experience with clinical informatics (e.g. data table structure, storage, relationships, maintenance, etc.) as well as in-depth knowledge of medical claims and electronic health records (ICD-10 codes, data management, research, etc.)
- Experience rebuilding on-prem legacy applications in a modern cloud environment (AWS)
- Experience with workflow orchestration tools and pipeline scheduling frameworks
- AWS certifications or advanced cloud data engineering training
