[Remote] Senior Google Cloud Platform Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking a Senior Google Cloud Platform Engineer to administer the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), collaborating with AWS and Azure Engineers. The role involves providing senior-level engineering expertise, delivering scalable cloud infrastructure, and enhancing DevSecOps capabilities to support AI and data science initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Engineer, deploy, and optimize GCP infrastructure across IaaS, PaaS, serverless, container, data, and AI services
- Support data scientists and AI engineers using Vertex AI, Gemini APIs, Model Garden, BigQuery ML, Dataproc, Dataflow, and Databricks on GCP
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and policy-driven automation frameworks
- Migrate cloud resources into IaC with version control, automated testing, and compliance enforcement
- Implement DevSecOps practices including automated scans, configuration compliance, policy-as-code, and CI/CD controls
- Engineer core GCP components: compute, storage, networking, identity, Kubernetes, monitoring, logging, and governance
- Design and support secure connectivity across hybrid, SaaS, and multi-cloud architectures
- Produce architecture diagrams, engineering documentation, implementation guides, and technical recommendations
- Evaluate emerging GCP, AI, and multi-cloud services and recommend adoption strategies
- Contribute to cloud standards, reusable patterns, landing zones, security baselines, and modernization roadmaps
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Systems Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of cloud, infrastructure, systems, or platform engineering experience, preferably with hands-on development experience
- Hands-on enterprise-scaling Google Cloud Platform (GCP) engineering and operations experience
- Experience supporting AI/ML workloads (Vertex AI, BigQuery, Dataproc, Dataflow, MLOps patterns)
- Strong DevSecOps automation skills, including CI/CD, Git-based workflows, and secure deployment practices
- Expertise with Terraform and IaC best practices
- Understanding of multi-cloud concepts and AWS/Azure equivalents
- Proficiency with Linux and Windows Server
- Scripting experience with Python, Bash, and PowerShell
- Strong GCP networking experience (VPCs, subnets, firewall rules, Cloud DNS, Cloud NAT, Cloud Router, Cloud VPN, Cloud Interconnect, PSC, load balancing, routing)
- Experience with Docker and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
- Experience with key GCP services including: Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, Artifact Registry, Cloud Build, Cloud Deploy, Cloud Logging, Cloud Monitoring, IAM, Secret Manager, Cloud KMS, SCC, and/or Organization Policy Service
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
- Google Cloud certifications, including Cloud Architect, DevOps Engineer, Security Engineer, Data Engineer, ML Engineer
- Experience with Vertex AI, Gemini APIs, Model Garden, Dataplex, Looker, Cloud Composer, Pub/Sub, and Databricks on GCP
- Experience engineering secure GCP landing zones (Org Policies, folder/project design, centralized logging, Shared VPC, guardrails)
- Experience in regulated environments (FedRAMP, HIPAA, NIST 800-53 / 171, CMMC)
- Security+, CySA+, CISSP, CCSP, CKA, or CKAD certifications
- Experience with Agile/Scrum, Jira, Confluence, GitLab, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps
- Experience integrating SaaS platforms with GCP and hybrid/multi-cloud environments
