[Remote] Risk Consultant

AscendEdge Services/Plus is seeking an experienced Workers' Compensation Compliance Specialist to support clients in maintaining qualified self-insurance status. The role involves managing complex filings across multiple jurisdictions and ensuring compliance with state-specific reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain reporting calendars for multiple clients, entities, and state jurisdictions to ensure all filing requirements are completed accurately and on time
- Request, collect, and review payroll data, classification codes, hours worked, loss information, financial statements, actuarial reports, and other required documentation
- Proactively follow up with clients, third-party administrators, and other stakeholders to obtain required information and maintain compliance with strict filing deadlines
- Monitor and update filing statuses and enter required information into various state reporting portals and online systems
- Guide clients through certification, approval, and submission processes within state web portals
- Provide instructions regarding payment requirements and compliance obligations
- Maintain detailed documentation of all compliance activities, communications, supporting records, and filing submissions
- Assist clients with adding new entities to state self-insurance programs as needed
- Review surety bond requirements and other security obligations with individual states and coordinate requests for adjustments when necessary
- Compile and provide actuarial reports and supporting documentation requested by state agencies
Skills
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in workers' compensation compliance, self-insurance administration, risk management, payroll, benefits administration, or related functions
- Demonstrated experience managing quarterly and annual workers' compensation filings across multiple states
- Strong understanding of qualified self-insurance programs, state reporting requirements, and monopolistic fund compliance
- Experience working with state reporting portals and maintaining regulatory documentation
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Outlook
- Candidates located in the New York/New Jersey area or within the Eastern or Central time zones are preferred
- Experience within an employer risk management department, human resources function, payroll department, insurance brokerage, consulting firm, third-party administrator, or state regulatory agency
- Knowledge of workers' compensation security requirements, surety bonds, and actuarial reporting processes
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment while managing competing priorities and deadlines
