[Remote] Legal Automation Builder - 12 Month Remote Contract
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Legal.io is a leading Fintech Company seeking a Legal Automation Builder to support the development of internal applications and automated workflows. The role involves managing projects, building workflows, and leveraging AI to enhance legal processes, ensuring efficient delivery of tools and solutions.
Responsibilities
- Run projects end to end: Take ambiguous requests from legal stakeholders, turn them into scoped projects with clear milestones, and drive them to delivery. Keep our project tracker honest and our partners informed
- Build workflows: Design and ship automations that connect the tools legal already uses — document systems, contract platforms, intake forms, and internal databases — so manual steps disappear
- Build with AI: Prototype and deploy AI assistants and agents that draft, summarize, classify, and retrieve. Wire up retrieval over legal documents, build internal apps, and iterate based on how people actually use them. Partner closely with legal. Sit with lawyers and Legal Engineers to understand the real workflow, not the idealized one. Translate legal needs into technical solutions
- Ship, measure, improve: Get something working in front of users quickly, watch how it performs, and tighten it. Document what you build so it's maintainable
Skills
- 3–5 years building software, automations, or internal tools — in a product, ops, IT, or technical-program role
- A track record of owning projects, not just tasks: scoping, sequencing, communicating status, and landing them
- Comfort building workflows with low-code/automation platforms (e.g., Airtable, Tonkean, workflow orchestrators) and writing enough code (Python, SQL, scripting) to glue systems together
- Hands-on experience building with LLMs / AI — prompting, retrieval, agents, or AI-powered apps. You've shipped something, not just read about it
- Strong communication. You can explain a technical trade-off to a lawyer and a legal nuance to an engineer
- A bias toward shipping working prototypes over perfect plans
- Comfort working independently as a contractor — ramping fast in an unfamiliar environment, scoping your own work, and delivering with light supervision
- Experience in a legal, compliance, or regulated environment, or working directly with legal teams
- Familiarity with our stack: Databricks, Airtable, Claude / Anthropic APIs, GitHub, and internal app platforms
- Experience building with data — pulling from APIs, modeling in SQL, deploying dashboards or Streamlit-style apps
- A self-starter history of automating your own work before anyone asked
