[Remote] Head of Legal
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Founded in Scottsdale, Arizona, equipifi is a fast growing, early-stage SaaS fintech building the credit infrastructure for modern banking. The Head of Legal will own the commercial contracting function, act as a business partner to Sales and Partnerships, and establish a scalable legal foundation for the company.
Responsibilities
- Build the legal foundation that scales with us. You'll own the contract playbook, standard form library, redline positions, vendor management framework, and outside counsel relationships. MSAs, order forms, NDAs, partnership agreements - all of it systematized and built to hold up as we grow
- Be the yes-first legal partner. Sales and Partnerships should see you as the person who helps them close, not the person they dread looping in. You'll embed yourself as a genuine business partner - fielding questions, turning redlines fast, and giving clear answers that don't require a law degree to understand. Success here looks like deals moving faster because legal is in the room, not slower
- Be fluent in the world we operate in. BNPL and fintech regulation is nuanced, and it moves fast. You'll stay close enough to the landscape that when a compliance question hits - from a customer, a partner, or the exec team - you can give a clear, calibrated answer. You elevate our company maturity by being a sound expert to keep us compliant (and trusted by customers) as we scale
Skills
- 3-5+ years of in-house legal experience at a fintech, payments, lending, or B2B SaaS company - with time spent as the first or second attorney in the building at a hyper-growth company
- Active bar admission in good standing
- You've got EQ in spades and can work with anyone - balancing warmth, professionalism, and knowledge in every interaction
- You can read a 40-page MSA (have a blast doing so) and immediately know what actually matters
- You explain legal risk in ways anyone can understand. If your answer needs a disclaimer, a caveat, and three follow-up questions, we're probably not the right fit
- You've got enough fintech and lending fluency to hold your own in a regulatory conversation without phoning a friend
- You love making requests and business growth come to life. You find the path to yes and you move fast getting there
