[Remote] Financial Analyst II
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Texas Association of Counties is seeking a Financial Analyst II to assist with underwriting and rate-setting analysis for the Health and Employee Benefits Pool. The role involves financial reporting, data analysis, and collaboration with actuaries and underwriters to support the Pool's operations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct underwriting functions such as rate modeling, risk assessment, claims evaluation, and renewal analysis
- Assist the Financial Administrator with the development and maintenance of dynamic dashboards and reports for performance tracking
- Independently coordinate with actuaries and underwriters on Pool strategy, cost projections, and budget impacts
- Provide analytical insight to leadership including claim analyses, plan design evaluations, and changes in market trends
- Develop and present complex financial materials to internal and external stakeholders
- Compile and review data for responses to RFPs and RFQs
- Monitor employee benefits markets and summarize identified trends
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in finance, math, business administration, or related field required
- Two or more years of experience performing financial analysis and financial reporting in a professional environment
- Demonstrated ability to perform advanced analysis independently
- Cannot have any form of employment corrective action within the last 12 months (Internal Applicants)
- Must demonstrate strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical data and translate insights into actionable recommendations to various stakeholders
- Position requires a high degree of professionalism in representing TAC and the Pool in significant contacts with elected officials, public employees, and members
- Position requires a high degree of confidentiality and compliance with state and federal privacy laws and regulations
- Must demonstrate knowledge of employee benefits programs, including underwriting, contract issuance, claims handling, and cost containment
- Must be proficient in the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office products including Word and PowerPoint
- Must function independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent time management and record keeping required
- Valid Texas driver's license and good driving record required; must be able to drive
- Residence in Texas required
- Emphasis in health insurance or a related field preferred but not required
- Preferred experience in health insurance underwriting, actuarial services, or account management of a self insured group
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, including deep knowledge of pivot tables, macros and complex formulas strongly preferred
- Knowledge of additional data analytics tools such as Power BI preferred
