[Remote] Financial Analyst
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. University of Utah Health Research is seeking a Financial Analyst to join the Utah Data Coordinating Center (DCC). The Financial Analyst will provide a full range of financial services, including preparing financial reports, managing project budgets, and collaborating with leadership to support multi-site research efforts.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and interprets management information and other financial reports
- Meets regularly with Operational Leaders to review financial status of projects
- Analyzes trends, projections and possible consequences
- Collaborates with the Proposal Development Office (PDO) in the Utah DCC to prepare budgets and provide feedback on proposals
- Participates in the establishment and maintenance of cost accounting systems
- Recommends and implements improvements that affect accounting systems and DCC operations
- Prepares, monitors and provides reports for Center, project and/or program budgets
- Prepares project/grant budgets and provides assistance with proposals
- Updates effort allocations for DCC Staff
- Provides guidance and training on financial matters and procedures
- Researches and prepares necessary revenue, expense, payroll, journal entries and other accounting procurements and/or corrections
- Independently determines the type and nature of analysis to be used to obtain the desired information or results, including data to be collected, analysis methods, presentation, format and report structure
- Remains compliant with all accounting procedures in accordance with GAAP and NIH, State, Private, Foundation and University policies (dependent upon the policies surrounding specified funding sources)
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects, determining the best course of action or appropriate resources needed to complete a project or address a problem, obtaining valid data and creating clear and understandable reports that reflect the data being sought
- Collaborates with DCC leadership and Financial Management Analyst to address issues, challenges and trends. Liaison’s with campus partners
- Participates in meetings held with colleagues to discuss changes in financial accounting standards, changes within the DCC, and various issues and resolution techniques
Skills
- Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience for Financial Analyst, III
- Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 8 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 6 years of directly related work experience for Financial Analyst, IV
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects, determining the best course of action or appropriate resources needed to complete a project or address a problem, obtaining valid data and creating clear and understandable reports that reflect the data being sought
- Remains compliant with all accounting procedures in accordance with GAAP and NIH, State, Private, Foundation and University policies (dependent upon the policies surrounding specified funding sources)
- Independently determines the type and nature of analysis to be used to obtain the desired information or results, including data to be collected, analysis methods, presentation, format and report structure
- Post-award research accounting experience in an academic setting is strongly preferred
- An advanced degree, such as a Master's of Business Administration, is preferred
- Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description
- Keen Organization skills and the ability to communicate effectively both oral and written
