[Remote] Finance Controller / Accountant–Government Contracting (GovCon)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Adams Communication & Engineering Technology (ACET) is seeking an experienced Finance Controller / Accountant to support and strengthen their Corporate Finance and Accounting organization within a fast-paced Government Contracting environment. The role is responsible for leading core accounting functions, ensuring financial accuracy, maintaining regulatory compliance, and supporting executive leadership through sound financial management and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Day-to-day accounting operations supporting a multi-contract Government Contractor
- Current and past reconciliation
- Maintain the General Ledger and ensure financial integrity
- Prepare monthly journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Support month-end and year-end close activities
- Maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Government Contract Accounting requirements
- Provide backup support for Accounts Payable and Purchase Order (PO)-based voucher entry
- Process and reconcile employee expense reports
- Complete vendor setup and ensure all required compliance documentation is obtained
- Perform three-way match reviews between purchase orders, receiving documents, and vendor invoices
- Monitor AP Aging Reports and coordinate timely resolution of outstanding items
- Support annual 1099 vendor reporting and compliance requirements
- Assist with month-end AP accruals by identifying unposted vouchers and preparing accrual entries
- Create vouchers for corporate credit card transactions and reconcile receipts to charges
- Resolve payment discrepancies and vendor inquiries
- Ensure compliance with: Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), DCAA accounting requirements
- Review direct and indirect cost transactions for allowability and compliance
- Support contract setup, project costing, and indirect rate structures
- Assist with incurred cost submissions and audit preparation
- Process labor corrections and labor adjustments within Deltek Costpoint
- Support billing operations by preparing draft customer invoices
- Assist with project setup, labor distribution, cost transfers, and revenue recognition
- Maintain accounting data integrity within Costpoint
- Perform monthly reconciliations for: Bank Accounts, General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Credit Cards, Labor Distribution, Project Costing, Balance Sheet Accounts
- Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies
- Support monthly subledger reconciliations and General Ledger cleanup
- Ensure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled timely and accurately
- Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules
- Assist with budget-to-actual analysis and financial trend reporting
- Support DCAA, DCMA, external CPA, and customer audits
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and accounting records
- Recommend process improvements that strengthen internal controls and improve efficiency
- Serve as a accounting resource within the Finance Department
- Collaborate with Payroll, Human Resources, Contracts, Project Accounting, and Operations
- Mentor junior accounting personnel as needed
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and financial process enhancements
Skills
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Minimum 5 years of Government Contracting (GovCon) accounting experience
- Advanced experience using Deltek Costpoint
- Strong knowledge of: FAR, DFARS, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), DCAA Accounting Requirements, GAAP
- Extensive experience with: General Ledger Accounting, Bank and Account Reconciliations, Accounts Payable, Labor Corrections, Billing Support, Month-End Close
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
- Experience supporting aerospace or Department of Defense contracts
- Experience with incurred cost proposals and indirect rate calculations
- Experience supporting DCAA audits and Contractor Purchasing System Reviews (CPSR)
- Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) financial reporting
