[Remote] Engineering Manager

Karpower is a next-generation power infrastructure company delivering fast-track, behind-meter energy solutions for industries that can't afford delays. The Engineering Manager will lead the development and execution of large-scale power infrastructure solutions supporting hyperscale data center and AI-driven energy projects across North America.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end engineering execution of utility-scale power generation and electrical infrastructure projects supporting hyperscale and AI-driven data center developments
- Serve as the primary engineering interface for hyperscale clients, translating operational and technical requirements into engineered solutions
- Lead and coordinate internal and external engineering resources, consultants, EPC partners, and OEMs to ensure engineering deliverables align with project objectives, client requirements, and owner standards
- Manage multidisciplinary engineering teams across electrical, mechanical, controls, civil, and commissioning disciplines
- Oversee the design and integration of high-voltage systems, medium-voltage distribution, generator interconnections, paralleling switchgear, substations, and data center electrical infrastructure
- Ensure alignment with mission-critical reliability standards including 2N, N+1, and redundant power architecture requirements
- Evaluate and develop integrated power solutions including gas-fired generation, microgrids, hybrid energy systems, energy storage technologies, and utility-connected architectures
- Support utility interconnection strategy, grid integration studies, and coordination with transmission and distribution providers to ensure successful project development and execution
- Drive technical compliance with applicable codes and standards including NERC, NFPA 70, IEEE, NEC, and relevant state and federal environmental regulations
- Support permitting strategy and technical documentation for environmental and regulatory approvals
- Manage technical relationships with OEMs, EPC contractors, consultants, and engineering vendors to ensure quality and timely delivery of engineering outputs
- Develop project execution strategies, engineering schedules, budgets, and risk mitigation plans for large capital projects
- Provide engineering leadership during construction, commissioning, startup, and operational handover to ensure engineering intent, reliability objectives, and performance requirements are fully achieved
- Foster strong cross-functional collaboration and a team-first culture across engineering, commercial, construction, and operations teams
- Travel regularly to project sites, client offices, and vendor locations across North America
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline
- 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in power systems, utility-scale generation, transmission/distribution, or mission-critical data center infrastructure
- Strong background in data center power systems, hyperscale infrastructure, or mission-critical facility design
- Proven experience managing large-scale multidisciplinary projects from development through commissioning and operational handover
- Deep technical expertise in power system engineering includes load flow studies, short circuit analysis, protective relaying, arc flash studies, and generator paralleling
- Strong understanding of medium-voltage distribution, UPS systems, switchgear, substations, and reliability-driven electrical architecture
- Experience working directly with hyperscale clients, major utilities, or large industrial energy users
- Ability to lead client-facing technical discussions, executive presentations, and complex stakeholder alignment
- Strong project management capability including schedule development, budgeting, and engineering risk management
- Proficiency with engineering software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent
- Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite and modern productivity tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Direct experience supporting hyperscale data center developments, AI infrastructure projects, or mission-critical power solutions for major cloud, AI, digital infrastructure, or technology companies
- Experience with natural gas-fired power generation, reciprocating engines, combustion turbines, or combined cycle plants
- Experience with environmental permitting processes including TCEQ, EPA, and state-level regulatory agencies
- Understanding of AI compute infrastructure and high-density power requirements
- Experience in owner's engineering, developer-side, or owner-operator project environments
- US-based position - must be authorized to work in the United States
- Travel up to 50% across North America to active construction sites, client facilities, and vendor locations
- Texas is the preferred base location; however, exceptional candidates across the United States will be considered
