[Remote] Electrical Design Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Salas O'Brien is an employee-owned engineering and professional services firm dedicated to creating positive impact for clients. They are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to design building electrical systems with a strong emphasis on healthcare projects, and to support construction administration activities.
Responsibilities
- Develop electrical system designs in accordance with project scope, client requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards
- Provide engineering planning, design, and construction administration services for:
- Power distribution systems
- Lighting and lighting control systems
- Fire alarm systems
- Nurse Call systems
- Other low voltage systems
- Perform existing building surveys and document current electrical and fire alarm conditions
- Prepare, edit, and coordinate electrical specifications and construction documents
- Author engineering reports, assessment reports, and Basis of Design (BOD) documents
- Coordinate closely with internal project teams, architects, and other engineering disciplines
- Participate in and lead technical discussions, design coordination meetings, and client presentations
- Support construction administration activities, including RFIs, submittal reviews, and field coordination as needed
- Assist Project Managers with technical input, schedule coordination, and project execution
Skills
- Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of electrical design experience
- Proficiency in electrical engineering calculations, including lighting photometric calculations, voltage drop analysis, short‑circuit and overcurrent protection coordination studies, and load calculations
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
- Strong working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and design guidelines
- High level of attention to detail with a commitment to quality and accuracy
- Excellent work ethic with a proactive, solution‑oriented attitude
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Comfortable engaging with clients and presenting technical information in a clear and professional manner
- Experience with healthcare, science and technology, education, and/or commercial buildings is strongly preferred
- Knowledge of and experience with HCAI / OSHPD standards is a plus
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- LEED accreditation or sustainable design experience preferred
