[Remote] Director of Finance

Treaty Oak Financial is an innovative firm focused on helping founders build and grow their businesses through outsourced accounting and finance services. The Director of Finance will lead the finance team, manage client finance work, and provide strategic guidance to clients while ensuring operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and develop Treaty Oak's internal finance team: setting standards, reviewing work, and building a culture of ownership and accuracy
- Manage team capacity planning and workload distribution across the client portfolio to optimize throughput and quality
- Build a culture of ownership, accuracy, and continuous improvement, one where the team takes pride in the work and holds itself accountable
- Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching conversations that help team members grow and succeed
- Partner with leadership on hiring decisions as the team scales
- Serve as a fractional finance leader across a portfolio of growth-oriented professional services and emerging businesses, stepping in as the senior finance voice those teams need
- Lead or support month-end close, financial reporting, and management reporting packages for complex client engagements where depth and judgment matter
- Provide CFO-level strategic guidance (revenue optimization, cost structure, capital planning, and business performance) clients navigating growth
- Identify gaps in client finance functions and fix them, whether that's a missing process, a weak control, or a reporting blind spot
- Partner with the broader Treaty Oak team to deliver an exceptional client experience - you're a resource the team can lean on for complex situations
Skills
- 10+ years of FP&A experience, including 5+ years in a high-growth startup or scaling environment
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP, including revenue recognition (ASC 606) and balance sheet accounting
- You've got a good command of Excel - you can build and maintain schedules and complex models
- You have deep experience in financial planning and analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting - and you've done it both internally and in a client-facing context
- You've worked in a multi-client, outsourced, or fractional finance environment and know what it takes to context-switch quickly and deliver across a portfolio
- You're a strong people manager who builds accountable, high-performing teams
- You're both strategic and execution-focused
- You communicate financial complexity clearly so that partners, founders, and non-finance stakeholders trust your thinking
- You use AI tools and modern financial technology because you're always looking for a smarter way to work
- You've thrived in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- You spot gaps and close them without being asked
- You thrive in ambiguity and find real satisfaction in building order out of complexity
- CPA license is a plus
