[Remote] Cloud Engineer (Infrastructure Systems)

Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. They are seeking a Cloud Engineer to join their Information Technology department, focusing on building, maintaining, and evolving foundational platforms that power their cloud services. The role involves optimizing cloud infrastructure, supporting Kubernetes operations, and contributing to internal tooling and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Maintain your personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him
- Build, maintain, and optimize cloud infrastructure platform services that support the deployment and operation of ministry-critical workloads in our private cloud platform. Utilize various Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to assist in optimizing engineering builds
- Provision and automate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines using Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD tools to support development and production environments
- Support Kubernetes cluster and open source storage lifecycle operations including upgrades, patching, and configuration management across multiple environments
- Monitor applications and infrastructure performance and respond to incidents as part of an on-call rotation, supporting root cause analysis and long-term remediation
- Contribute to internal tooling and documentation to improve team productivity, technical consistency, and system knowledge-sharing
- Assist in evaluating cost implications and supporting optimization efforts for cloud resource usage; coordinate implementation efforts across stakeholders and vendors as needed
- Assist in the evaluation and adoption of emerging cloud technologies, advocating for improvements in resilience, cost, and maintainability
- Actively participate in team ceremonies, including stand-ups, retrospectives, and planning meetings, fostering continuous improvement and shared accountability
- All other duties as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree or university program certificate in a related field, plus five (5) to seven (7) years of Cloud Engineering experience, or seven (7) or more years of related experience
- Proven experience in cloud infrastructure engineering with a focus on platform operations, automation, and Infrastructure as Code
- Hands-on extensive experience administering Kubernetes in production, strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills, and comfort with open-source, on-premise environments; OpenStack and Ceph experience is a plus
- 12 credit hours of college-level Biblical Studies (required); if not already completed, opportunity to meet and complete requirement is available upon hire
- Fluency in English (required)
