[Remote] Business Development Director – CRO
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Tech Observer is seeking a Director of Business Development to drive strategic growth by identifying, developing, and securing new business opportunities for their Clinical Research Organization (CRO) and Functional Service Provider (FSP) services. The successful candidate will focus on acquiring new clients and expanding existing relationships while building long-term partnerships and developing sales strategies.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic business development plans to achieve annual sales and revenue targets
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, diagnostics, and healthcare organizations
- Generate new business through networking, referrals, conferences, outbound prospecting, and industry relationships
- Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline using CRM tools
- Lead the complete sales cycle from lead generation through contract execution and handoff to delivery teams
- Develop account strategies to increase revenue from existing clients through cross-selling and upselling
- Establish and maintain executive-level relationships with key decision-makers
- Understand client business objectives and propose tailored CRO, staffing, and FSP solutions
- Conduct client presentations, capability discussions, and solution workshops
- Ensure a high level of client satisfaction and long-term partnership development
- Collaborate with Clinical Operations, Medical Writing, Biometrics, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, Talent Acquisition, and Delivery teams to develop competitive proposals
- Lead RFI, RFP, RFQ, and bid responses
- Prepare pricing strategies and commercial proposals in coordination with leadership
- Negotiate Master Service Agreements (MSAs), Statements of Work (SOWs), confidentiality agreements, and commercial terms within delegated authority
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and emerging market opportunities
- Analyze market dynamics and recommend new service offerings or strategic initiatives
- Identify opportunities for geographic expansion and therapeutic area growth
- Work closely with recruitment, operations, finance, contracts, and executive leadership to ensure successful project transitions
- Participate in strategic planning and forecasting activities
- Maintain accurate sales forecasts, opportunity status, and pipeline metrics in the CRM system
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field; MBA preferred
- 10+ years of business development experience within a CRO, life sciences, or healthcare services organization
- Demonstrated success selling CRO, FSP, staffing, or clinical outsourcing solutions
- Strong understanding of clinical development, clinical operations, biometrics, pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, medical writing, and clinical staffing
- Proven track record of achieving multi-million-dollar sales targets
- Experience negotiating commercial agreements, including MSAs and SOWs
- Established network within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device companies
- Strategic business development and account management
- Solution selling and consultative sales
- Contract negotiation and commercial acumen
- Excellent presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
- Experience selling Functional Service Provider (FSP), Full-Service CRO, Biometrics, Pharmacovigilance, Medical Writing, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Operations, or Staffing solutions
- Experience working with global sponsors and multinational pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies
- Existing relationships with decision-makers within the life sciences industry
