GCP Cloud Engineer
About the position We have a new GCP Cloud Engineer opening with our client in Wilmington, DE. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire position requiring 3 days onsite per week in Wilmington, DE. The role requires a strong understanding of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, and CI/CD pipelines. The ideal candidate will have architecture experience, deep technical expertise in GCP, and a strong understanding of enterprise cloud security. The ability to troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis across cloud, network, and identity domains is essential. The candidate must be able to confidently challenge designs and defend technical decisions in security- and compliance-sensitive environments.
Responsibilities
- Operating Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in production, including services such as Cloud Run, GKE, VPC networking, and Secret Manager.
- Designing and governing infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, including reusable module development and organizational standards.
- Owning CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for cloud-native workloads.
- Providing architecture experience.
- Ensuring deep technical expertise in Google Cloud Platform, including networking, IAM, Cloud Run, GKE, security controls, and observability.
- Implementing strong understanding of enterprise cloud security, segmentation, and blast-radius reduction strategies.
- Utilizing expert-level Terraform proficiency, including state management, module versioning, and GitOps-based workflows.
- Confidently challenging designs, pushing back on stakeholders when needed, and defending technical decisions in security- and compliance-sensitive environments.
- Performing advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis across cloud, network, and identity domains.
Requirements
- 4+ years of hands-on experience operating Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in production, including services such as Cloud Run, GKE, VPC networking, and Secret Manager.
- 2+ years of experience designing and governing infrastructure-as-code using Terraform, including reusable module development and organizational standards.
- Demonstrated experience owning CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation for cloud-native workloads.
- Architecture experience.
- Deep technical expertise in Google Cloud Platform, including networking, IAM, Cloud Run, GKE, security controls, and observability.
- Strong understanding of enterprise cloud security, segmentation, and blast-radius reduction strategies.
- Expert-level Terraform proficiency, including state management, module versioning, and GitOps-based workflows.
- Ability to confidently challenge designs, push back on stakeholders when needed, and defend technical decisions in security- and compliance-sensitive environments.
- Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across cloud, network, and identity domains.
- GCP Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect certification (required).
- Terraform Associate or equivalent infrastructure-as-code certification (required).
Nice-to-haves
- Any level of Azure experience would be a huge plus.
- Someone who is strong in both Azure and GCP would be their perfect candidate.
- Some security knowledge would be a nice to have.
- Microsoft Azure Administrator or Solutions Architect certification (preferred; secondary platform).
