Environmental Health & Safety Compliance Specialist
Job Description:
- Prepare technical reports and assigned report sections using critical thinking and independent analysis
- Review datasets and draft technical conclusions supported by data
- Compile and interpret numerical data, presenting findings through tables, charts, and graphs within reports
- Adhere to EHS Support formatting standards and style guidelines for all deliverables
- Work within defined project budgets and timelines, as directed by the PM
- Communicate project status, progress, and challenges to PMs, technical reviewers, and project teams
- Develop a working understanding of ASTM Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) standards
- Support preparation of Phase I ESA, Limited Compliance Reviews (LCRs), and desktop due diligence reports by drafting assigned sections
- Assist with ordering environmental database (EDR) reports and submitting FOIA requests under supervision
- Conduct Phase I ESA site visits for small, non-complex properties (initial visits performed with a Technical Lead or PM)
- Develop a foundational understanding of federal (e.g., USEPA, OSHA) and applicable state EHS regulations
- Assist in drafting technical compliance documents under the direction of a PM or Technical Lead
- Provide limited on-site compliance support to clients, with direct oversight
- Support collection and documentation of compliance data and assist in communicating with site personnel regarding compliance matters
- Support waste management compliance efforts internally and externally
- Travel to client sites up to approximately 50% of the year
- Arrive at field locations prepared with required PPE, equipment (e.g., laptop/iPad), and documentation
- Document site conditions through detailed notes, checklists, and photographs
- Support field activities in alignment with project scope and direction from technical leadership
- Comply with all EHS Support and client-specific environmental, health, and safety protocols
- Participate in and complete Site Safety Risk Assessments prior to field activities
- Schedule and track field events in company systems (e.g., Airtable) and complete required check-ins
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proactively communicate task progress, risks, and issues to project teams
- Collaborate primarily with internal project teams, with opportunities for client interaction during fieldwork and interviews
- Build an understanding of client needs and support timely responses
- Assist with client relationship management activities, including weekly progress check-ins with Client Managers
- Support development of marketing or business development content (e.g., service descriptions, client alerts) under supervision
- Develop familiarity with company service lines and consulting capabilities
- Gain knowledge of company processes, systems, and service offerings
- Develop awareness of project scheduling, budgeting, and resourcing
- Participate in training and mentoring to build technical and consulting competencies
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or related field
- Strong technical writing ability with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to analyze data and draw logical, well-supported conclusions
- Effective time management and ability to work within structured budgets and deadlines
- Basic problem-solving skills and willingness to learn
- Ability to follow direction and work under close supervision while developing independence
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or similar tools
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly (up to 50%)
