Data Scientist
Purpose of the RoleThe Data Scientist will support the University to make data-informed decisions by transforming and combining information housed in disparate systems. These new datasets will allow for the creation of visualizations and make more thorough analysis for the data possible.Team & Reporting Team: Institutional Research Reports to: Director of Institutional Research Location: Remote Status: Full-time Success in This Role Looks Like:Understanding the flow of data across the University's different systems, including which fields can be found where, how the data are formatted, and the informations the fields should be capturing Applying advanced ETL knowledge to support the accuracy, consistency and efficiency of integrated data reporting Analyzing the data to generate actionable insights Effectively communicating findings to stakeholders Building relationships with different departments to ensure that data needs across the University are being met Experience & Approach We’re Looking ForBA or higher in Data Science, Economics, or related field; 3-5 years of experience in applied analytics or institutional research; Strong proficiency in Python (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, tidyverse); Experience with BI tools (Domo, Tableau, or Power BI); Familiarity with ETL workflows and SQL-based querying; Excellent analytical, communication, and storytelling skills; Curiosity - we learn rapidly and eagerly; Ability to work effectively on multiple concurrent projects; Preferred: Experience in higher education, labor market, or workforce analytics. Expectations for Growth This role could expand to a more heavy research focus depending on interest and experience, where the Data Scientist would design and implement predictive and statistical models to assess student outcomes and workforce impact. This role is focused on outcomes and contribution, not an exhaustive list of tasks. 1. Data Flows Collaborate with IT to document the flow of Institutional Research-relevant data throughout the ecosystem (SIS: Sonis, CRM: Element451, LMS: Canvas) Produce datasets needed to make informed decisions and to create visualizations Collaborate with the Data Engineer to automate data flows where possible 2. Research and Analysis Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) and identify key performance indicators across datasets Communicate results through reports, visualizations, and presentations accessible to non-technical audiences 3. Data Governance Work with departments on standardize data across systems Validate data coming into ETL pipelines for accuracy Provide data quality training to those inputting data into systems as necessary Collaboration & CommunicationWorks closely with IT, the Office of the Registrar, Admissions, Growth and Employer Success, the Office of the President, the Office of Continuous Improvement May support or guide the Institutional Research Assistant Participates in daily stand ups, weekly team meetings, planning sessions, and project check-ins Health Insurance: We provide medical, vision, and dental insurance plans to ensure you and your family are well-covered, plus additional wellness programs. Salary: The salary range for this role is $70,000–$90,000 commensurate with experience.
