Position: Chaplain (Part-Time) - Gonzales, TX | *Bilingual Spanish Preferred* Part‑time chaplain position in Gonzales, TX (1‑4 hours per week). Position Summary Chaplains serve as frontline staff, fulfilling the mission and Christian ministry of MCHAP by using their gifts and talents to serve company employees and their immediate families. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a messenger and conveyor of faith, mission, and purpose.
  • Interacts with companies, their employees, and the community in a manner that exhibits character through personal and spiritual disciplines.
  • Makes regular visits to worksites (usually weekly) to interact with employees and build relationships of trust and friendship motivated by Christian faith.
  • Visits employees or immediate family members wherever care can be expressed and help given: hospitals, nursing homes, funeral homes, family residences, or other sites.
  • Provides confidential pastoral discussions for employees and their families on issues such as family matters, divorce, serious illness, grief recovery, parenting, finances, and other personal issues.
  • Provides referral service and coordinates specialized assistance to employees or immediate family members with specific needs.
  • Assists in the planning, conduct, or attendance of funerals for employees or immediate family members, including follow‑up support during the grief period.
  • Makes jail visits to employees and immediate family members as needed.
  • Works with companies to serve notifications of death or serious injuries to families and other employees, encouraging those impacted by tragedies.
  • Provides post‑termination care for laid‑off or terminated employees to foster smooth transitions.
  • Facilitates, but does not lead, spiritual enrichment activities that are employee‑sponsored and led.
  • Provides literature and other resources to assist company employees with life issues.
  • Represents companies to clients/customers in appropriate ministry services.
  • Participates in new employee orientation to explain the Employee Care Service and the role of the Chaplain Team.
  • Responds positively and assertively to additional duties and services requested by executive leadership within the scope of the Letter of Agreement.

Requirements

  • Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary group and in an interfaith setting; ability to accept different lifestyles, cultures, beliefs, and values.
  • Skilled at listening, interacting with clients, employees, and families, delivering community presentations, and dealing effectively with stressful circumstances.
  • Spiritual maturity and commitment to a Christian lifestyle and MCHAP’s ministry values; understanding and applying the Holy Bible.
  • Professional diplomacy, patience, and courtesy with diverse groups; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; emotional stability to cope with human suffering and emergencies.
  • Skill in analyzing information, identifying solutions, and following up on problems or objectives; understanding of relevant policies and procedures.
  • Computer proficiency using Google Suites, Microsoft Office, or equivalent software, and ability to learn new technology programs.
  • Active state driver’s license and state minimum auto insurance where applicable.Conditions of Employment

Work Environment
