Due to the nature of our business, this position is NOT available for hybrid or work from home. Performs call taking functions and serve as a Police, Fire and Ambulance Dispatchers. This requires the ability to operate complex communications equipment including the radio, multi-line telephone systems, and computer aided dispatch (CAD). To access, input and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service and to dispatch emergency responders. This position is designated as Essential Personnel. Essential Personnel are expected to be dependable and report to work on time during all weather and other unforeseen conditions. METCOM is a 24-7 operation and all candidates must be available to work all shifts including; nights, weekends, rotating shifts, holidays and are subject to mandatory overtime. Work shifts and days off are bid by seniority per our union contract. Applicants must meet the minimum criteria: High school diploma or GED Skill in typing data into a computer system with speed of at least 45 wpm and high accuracy (this will be tested) Successfully complete, and pass, all phases of pre-employment testing (pre-employment testing, interview, drug screening, pre-employment psych, criminal background check, etc. A list of pre-employment testing is available on our website www.metcom911.com. Effectively communicate in English over the telephone (bi-lingual pay incentive is available). Ability to achieve and maintain Basic Telecommunicator and Emergency Medical Dispatch certification through the State of Oregon. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Receive and rapidly triage emergency and non-emergency telephone calls utilizing complex telephone, mapping and computer aided dispatch (CAD) equipment. Ability to prioritize simultaneous phone calls, radio transmissions and other associated operational work in a dynamic environment. Listen and comprehend phone calls and radio transmissions while accurately evaluate information to determine appropriate action(s) to be taken in a timely fashion. Maintain accurate records of events, written logs and reports of actions taken that may be used in legal proceedings. Ability to multi-task (use a phone, computer and a radio simultaneously) while retaining information over long periods of time. Ability to effectively use and monitor multiple computer screens. Rapidly enter, read, write and interpret information obtained via computer systems and verbal conversations. Read, interpret and apply agency standard operating guidelines, administrative directives, and user agency protocols, some of which may change frequently; read and comprehend complex written material. Ability to adjust to frequently changing workloads; adhere to the ethical and legal standards. Maintain a positive customer service attitude with citizens, users, co-workers and management, often under pressure and time constraints. Successfully complete and maintain a variety of required certifications within the required time; such as CPR/First Aid/AED, Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS), emergency medical dispatching (EMD), Oregon Basic Telecommunicator (through DPSST/State of Oregon) and other applicable required training and certification. Physical demands include: Sit at a desk or console for extended periods of time occasionally walk, stand, or stoop occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 20 pounds work for sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail take information from callers who may be excited, abusive, use profanity, are incoherent, drunk or hysterical. This position is for a 911 dispatch center. Employees must be available to work days, mid and graveyard shifts. Employees often work weekends and holidays.
