Volunteer: Website Messaging & User Experience Audit
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections. We are looking for a skilled User Experience (UX) and website strategy volunteer to provide a fresh, objective review of our nonprofit’s website and user journey. Our goal is to improve the overall user experience, messaging clarity, and conversion pathways for multiple audiences who visit our website, including parents, students (girls ages 10–15), volunteers, donors, and sponsors. We recently completed a full website redesign, so we are not looking for a major rebuild or technical overhaul. Instead, we need strategic feedback on how to strengthen what already exists. Specifically, we would like the volunteer to evaluate: Website messaging and clarity of our mission User flow and navigation Calls-to-action and conversion opportunities Donation and sponsorship pathways Product and program sales experience Overall user experience across desktop and mobile The ideal outcome is a clear list of recommendations that will help us improve engagement, increase conversions, and better communicate our programs. This project will directly support our organization’s mission by helping us better connect with the families, students, donors, and supporters who make our work possible. Our website serves as the central hub for everything we do—including program awareness, community engagement, donations, sponsorships, and product sales. If visitors do not quickly understand who we are, what we do, and how to engage with us, we risk losing opportunities to expand our impact. Improving our website experience and messaging will help us: Reach more families and students Increase participation in our programs Improve donor and sponsor engagement Increase earned revenue through website sales Strengthen trust and credibility with all audiences A stronger website will allow us to more effectively communicate our value, grow our support base, and expand access to the programs and resources we provide to students. Books That Build Skills powered by Athenian is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on helping students, specifically girls, ages 10–15, explore careers, build life skills, and gain confidence through STEM education. Through books, library partnerships, and podcast content, we help students better understand the real-world skills and careers shaping the future. Our mission is to equip the next generation with the communication, critical thinking, and career readiness skills they need to succeed. We will set this project up for success by providing the volunteer with all relevant background information needed to understand our organization, audience, and goals. This includes: Access to our website and key landing pages Brand messaging and mission information Information about our target audiences Overview of our programs, products, and revenue streams Specific concerns and areas where we want feedback We are highly collaborative and responsive, and we are committed to making this project as smooth and efficient as possible for the volunteer. We are open to feedback and willing to implement practical recommendations that improve user experience without requiring a major website rebuild. Our goal is to identify high-impact improvements that can be implemented within our existing platform and structure.
