Volunteer: 6-Month Marketing and Implementation Strategy

This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections. We'd like to connect with a skilled volunteer who can help us develop a 6-month marketing strategy that our team can execute throughout the year. Deliverables may include target audience recommendations, key messaging, marketing channel recommendations, content themes, and a month-by-month implementation plan with suggested priorities and goals. The Laguna Ocean Foundation is a small nonprofit dedicated to protecting and restoring Southern California’s coastal ecosystems through science, education, and community engagement. Like many small nonprofits, we have a passionate team and an important mission, but limited capacity when it comes to marketing and communications. We know we’re doing meaningful work, but we need help telling our story more effectively. We’re looking for guidance on developing compelling messages, stories, campaigns, and outreach strategies that can help raise awareness of our work, strengthen our presence within the community, engage new supporters, and ultimately increase the funding needed to sustain and grow our programs. Your experience could make a tremendous difference in helping us connect more people to the coast and inspire greater stewardship of these incredible natural resources. There is internal excitement about bringing on a Taproot volunteer (based on the positive experience that we had with Bryan Currie in figuring out a volunteer management strategy). We developed a number of campaign ideas and the steps we think we need to take in order to undertake this but could use guidance from a marketing expert. Ideally, the expert can point out cost/benefit analysis, ways to make our campaigns more relatable to the average person, help us flip that special switch that converts someone from a casual supporter to a life-long ocean steward. As mentioned above, we have a few ideas of what success looks like. Laguna Ocean Foundation Mission: Laguna Ocean Foundation is dedicated to sustainable ocean ecosystems along the Laguna Coast. We envision an evolving understanding of our local marine resources in order for Laguna Beach to better protect and enhance this valuable wilderness.
