VSE has been working in Southern California for many years. Client interest continues to increase, and we are now hiring our first in-person presence in the region. Help us expand! VSE is a structural engineering company of 17 located in Berkeley, CA focused on sustainable and low carbon structural design solutions, including specializing in deep green, and natural building systems. VSE works on a large variety of residential new builds and remodels, ADUs, commercial TI, and mid-rise mixed use projects throughout the Bay Area and the United States and occasionally abroad. VSE also engages in code development for alternative materials, research, and product development.
Job Description
The Staff Structural Engineer should have: industry design experience (4-8 years preferred); proficiency in AutoCAD; at least a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; and an interest in sustainable design. A strong grounding in engineering principles and good communication skills are a must for this role. Field practice experience, an EIT or a PE license, REVIT experience, and a master’s degree are preferred. Direct experience with permitting wood and masonry systems in the region is preferred. We are open to applicants with a range of experience that fit within the above criteria. This is a remote position requiring regular travel by car to meetings in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside Counties. Coworking options are possible if you prefer to work in an office setting. The Staff Engineer’s duties include:
- Design of residential and small commercial buildings (both remodels and new construction).
- Design using standard structural engineering materials (wood, concrete, steel, etc.).
- Sustainable structural design, working with materials such as straw bale, cob, adobe, rammed earth and bamboo.
- Structural design and drawing development using software such as Enercalc, Risa 3D, AutoCAD, and Revit.
- Working with many types of clients, including owners, contractors and architectural design firms.
- Managing your own work on a project from start to finish.
- Local site visits are regularly required in this position.
- Opportunities to engage with social media and similar outreach may be available if there is interest.
The position is full time, Monday through Friday, with a minimum of 30 hours per week. Pay: $105,000 - $145,000 per year Benefits:
