Smart Advanced Manufacturing Engineer-REMOTE

About the position At a Glance Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Smart Manufacturing Engineer to join the Global Operations team within the Data Center Power and Control (DPC) division. This critical role supports Legrand’s transformation strategy by advancing the deployment of smart automation solutions across a growing and diverse manufacturing network. Reporting to the Senior Director of Operational Excellence, the engineer will work across all DPC divisions to develop, standardize, and scale automation technologies that enhance throughput, reduce variability, and streamline both production and warehouse operations. A core responsibility of this role will also include the automation of warehouse movements and material handling processes to drive efficiency and accuracy in end-to-end fulfilment. The Engineer will partner with global research centers and suppliers to design innovative automated solutions and lead their implementation across the enterprise. DPC encompasses several leading brands—Starline, PAC, CCB, DAT, and ZPE—and operates a broad international footprint of factories and distribution centers. This role will help assess automation readiness, define site-specific strategies, and deploy modern technologies such as Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), vision systems, and robotic cells, accelerating Legrand’s digital and operational transformation. Location This is a REMOTE position Travel Up to 50% Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the divisions to shape a long-term manufacturing transformation roadmap that supports growth, innovation, and operational excellence across global sites.
  • Assess automation readiness and maturity across DPC manufacturing and logistics sites; develop tailored roadmaps for improvement.
  • Collaborate globally with manufacturing engineers, external vendors, and research institutions to source and apply next-generation automation technologies.
  • Design and implement scalable automation solutions in areas including assembly, inspection, packaging, and material handling.
  • Deploy and optimize technologies such as AGVs, AMRs, collaborative robots (cobots), machine vision, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Provide technical leadership on equipment selection, integration, and commissioning for new or upgraded manufacturing and warehouse systems.
  • Support workforce training and change management to enable successful adoption and long-term impact of automation investments.
  • Manage key transformation initiatives with cross-functional teams and support the implementation of projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in engineering and manufacturing capacity.
  • Strong engineering and automation background, with significant hands-on experience in factory shopfloor environments.
  • Proven experience in developing and integrating automation systems across multi-site manufacturing operations.
  • In-depth understanding of manufacturing technology trends, with familiarity in emerging solutions such as robotics, autonomous transport systems (e.g., AMRs, AGVs), and Industry 4.0 tools.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. Active listening and insight validation are essential.
  • Highly organized and self-directed, with strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated sound judgment and initiative in planning and execution.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of interpreting complex data sets, identifying actionable trends, and applying structured thinking to operational and strategic issues.
  • Must possess a valid passport and be willing to travel internationally as needed.
