[Remote] UNPAID VOLUNTEER - Front End Engineer | The City Tutors | United States (Remote)
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. The City Tutors is a nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to equitable, no-cost volunteer tutoring and mentoring support. They are seeking a Front End Developer to enhance their educational platform by implementing user-centered design principles and collaborating with a diverse team.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers, Writers, and Stakeholders to translate design mockups and wireframes into responsive, accessible web pages
- Build and optimize components for speed, scalability, and efficiency across different browsers and devices
- Ensure a seamless, intuitive user experience by implementing user-centered design principles
- Maintain clean, reusable, and efficient code to improve performance and reduce bugs
- Participate in the planning and review process, contributing ideas for improving features and functionality
- Work with back-end developers to integrate front-end elements with API data and back-end systems
- Keep up to date with modern front-end development trends, tools, and frameworks to continuously enhance the platform
Skills
- Experience in Web Development and Software Development
- Experience with Squarespace
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team
- Strong problem-solving and analysis
- Passion for community service and educational equity
- Front-End Development and Responsive Web Design skills
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (ES6+), and responsive design
- Experience with front-end frameworks like React, Node.js, or Angular
- Experience with platforms like Squarespace
- Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git
- Basic understanding of UI/UX design principles and ability to work with design tools like Figma or Sketch
- Knowledge of cross-browser compatibility issues and ways to address them
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple tasks in a volunteer setting
- Knowledge of Back-End Web Development is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field is preferred
- Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG) is a plus
