[Remote] Technical Writer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Planned Systems International (PSI) is a Government Contractor seeking a Technical Writer for their Testing Process Quality Improvement team. The role involves collaborating with various teams to ensure quality documentation and support for technical writing initiatives within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Perform a technical edit for quality assurance on all documentation prior to delivery to the customer
- Create and implement consistent writing templates and documentation styles for all technical publications
- Collaborate with subject matter experts when creating user guides, process documentation, new templates, template updates, and presentations to understand project specifications and needs
- Analyze team processes to ensure efficiency and that all aspects of the process are documented
- Ensure technical documentation is complete and accurate
- Combine, edit, format, and finalize the monthly progress report
- Participate in the review process
- Create, edit, and maintain training material, brown bags, and instructional supplements to ensure processes are understood as well as review all documentation and training materials to keep them up to date
- Provide a high level of customer service by adopting the customer’s mission and working towards success
- Transcribe Meeting Minutes from recordings
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or related field
- Equivalent experience or industry certifications may substitute for formal education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, Journalism, or a related field and 5+ years of Technical Writing/Communications experience in IT or Software development industries (or an equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience)
- Experience must include: Interview SME's to gather technical details
- Creating technical manuals and quick reference guides
- Using accepted style manuals, such as the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS), the Microsoft Manual of Style, and VA style preferences
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Teams, SharePoint, and CoPilot
- Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with supervisor on all activities within the areas of responsibility
- Proven excellent oral and written communication skills are required
- Expertise writing/editing/proofreading at all levels, and willingness to do whatever's needed
- Ability to use graphics effectively to communicate ideas
- Ability to revise one's own work or the work of others to make documents or presentations clearer and more persuasive
- Convey complex information in appropriate fashion to audiences with different levels of knowledge
- Work in both a team environment and independently
- Coach and mentor other technical writers
- Work in a fast paced, multi-faceted environment
- Working with AI tools to improve communications
- Extensive experience in technical writing (minimum five years)
- Mastery of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams)
- Strong understanding of SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat Pro Understanding of data quality principles and dashboard design concepts
- Experience with Power BI: datasets, measures, and report development
- Experience with SQL: tables, indexes, relationships, complex queries, stored procedures, jobs, job schedules
- Experience with AI tools
- Live scribe ability and experience for meeting minutes
- Experience with SharePoint, Teams, or workflow/documentation management tools
- Prior exposure to government, VA, or DoD environments is beneficial
- Current Moderate Background Investigation (MBI) and VA network access a plus
