[Remote] Staff Data Scientist
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Qcells North America is seeking an experienced Staff Data Scientist to join their Grid & Energy Analytics team. The role involves leading the implementation of enterprise-grade microservices to support real-time optimization and simulation of energy assets in U.S. wholesale electricity markets.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with Technical Lead to improve microservices including optimization, simulation, and market emulation
- Drive microservice benchmarking, develop operations metrics, and continuously improve system performance using data-driven insights
- Own significant software components, including documentation and testing suites, training junior engineers where appropriate
- Contribute to the next-generation merchant optimization platform, advising on architectural choices, design & implementation
- Support the Product Manager and Technical Leads in interpreting market requirements into technical solutions, managing work scope, and ensuring timely delivery
- Serve as a subject matter expert for at least one U.S. ISO/RTO, and mentor engineering team on compliance, settlement, and operational nuances
- Provide Level 3 support for production issues and actively contribute to operational robustness and scalability
Skills
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Engineering, Energy Systems, or related field
- 7+ years of software development experience, ideally in energy, renewables, or grid-tech sectors
- Proven experience delivering production-grade software for DERs, energy storage, or grid market participation
- Strong foundation in wholesale market operations and optimization techniques
- Proficiency in Python, Kubernetes, microservices architecture, and working with cloud-native deployments
- Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in fast-paced environments
- Experience interacting with real-time systems, equipment-level controls, or forecasting models for energy assets
- Travel may be required up to 10%, based on business needs
- Ph.D. in Operations Research, Engineering, Energy Systems, or related field
- Deep knowledge of ISO/RTO market participation frameworks, especially CAISO, ERCOT, NYISO, ISO-NE, and PJM
- Hands-on experience with Azure cloud stack, including deployment pipelines and monitoring tools
- Experience in CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and modern testing frameworks
- Experience using Julia for optimization problem formulation
