[Remote] Software Engineer IV

Trinity Health IHA Medical Group is hiring a Software Engineer IV role to lead meaningful, high-impact engineering work in a healthcare environment. This position is centered on robust application and service development, focusing on integrating Microsoft Azure capabilities and enhancing the operational efficiency of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Defines and leads the architecture of complex, cross-functional software and automation systems, ensuring scalability, security and maintainability
- Develops strategic approaches for AI-enabled applications, including enterprise-grade chatbots and intelligent workflow automation
- Establishes, documents, and enforces engineering best practices across teams to promote consistency, quality and long-term maintainability
- Designs, implements, and reviews mission-critical services using technologies such as Node.js, Python, and MSSQL, with a focus on performance and reliability
- Provides technical leadership on long-term product and platform evolution, influencing architectural direction and technology adoption
- Collaborates with executive, product, and operational stakeholders to align technical initiatives with strategic business objectives
- Ensures robust testing practices are implemented across teams, including unit, integration and automated testing strategies
- Guides teams through major design decisions, risk assessments and technical trade-offs, balancing innovation with stability
- Drives organization-wide initiatives related to code quality, observability, DevOps maturity and engineering efficiency
- Mentors engineers across all levels, fostering a high-performance, inclusive and growth-oriented engineering culture
- Champions the evaluation and adoption of emerging technologies, identifying opportunities to enhance innovation and business value
- Reviews and contributes to technical documentation, ensuring alignment with team standards and clarity of architectural strategies
- Consistently produces top-tier production-ready code with efficiency, setting the example for productivity across the development team, and ensuring project deliverables are met or exceeded
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience demonstrating advanced software engineering and architectural capabilities
- Minimum of 7 years of professional software development experience, including significant contributions to system architecture, cross-functional initiatives, and enterprise-scale solutions
- Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Python, and MSSQL, with a history of delivering scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions
- Extensive experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js and React, including architectural design and performance optimization
- Proven ability to design and implement RESTful APIs and microservices for enterprise applications
- Deep understanding of Git-based workflows, automated testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines in large-scale environments
- Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML technologies, including Generative and Agentic AI (e.g., ChatGPT), into production systems
- Advanced knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), including infrastructure design, deployment automation, and cost optimization
- Strong grasp of application performance tuning, security best practices and advanced debugging techniques
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional engineering initiatives and mentoring developers across all levels
- Experience driving technical strategy and aligning engineering efforts with organizational goals
- Passion for innovation and continuous improvement, with a track record of evaluating and adopting emerging technologies
- Ability to work effectively and develop good working relationships with various levels of organizational members and diverse populations including IHA staff, management, providers, provider and executive leadership, patients and family members, insurance carriers, vendors and Trinity Health
- Displays a courteous and friendly demeanor within all levels of the organization, vendors and the general public
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to effectively juggle multiple priorities, time constraints and large volumes of work
- Ability to exercise sound judgement and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle patient, Michigan Medical Group staff and organizational information in a confidential manner
- Ability to travel to other office sites
- Successful completion of IHA competency-based program within introductory and training period
