[Remote] Project Manager- Power & Energy
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. WSP is one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms, currently seeking a Project Manager for their Power & Energy division. The role involves providing high-level technical project leadership and managing the administrative, commercial, and technical components of assigned projects, ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of technical professionals and subject matter experts to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, deliverables, compliance documentation, and managing the contractual obligations to deliver the project(s) as defined in the contract
- Lead the development of project proposals, cost estimates, scope, schedules, and resource plans
- Develop the work breakdown structure (WBS) tasks and estimated costs
- Establish and actively drive the appropriate levels of technical review required for the project, selecting appropriately qualified staff to perform the required reviews, and adherence to the QA/QC plan, as applicable
- Ensure and maintain a record of each review and the disposition of review comments and all correspondence leaving the project
- Mentor project team members to support their growth and professional development
- Perform margin analyses, establishing margin goals and risk contingencies
- Participate in the technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentation, and meetings
- Develop and update the Project Initiation/Setup Documentation including: Risk (REF/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety (PSP), and Communications Plan as necessary
- Conduct and facilitate project kick-off meetings with key stakeholders
- Work collaboratively with Project Accounting to monitor and track project metrics, estimated time-to-completion, cash management, and budgeted margin for an assigned portfolio of projects
- Oversee management of budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, cost and change management and control
- Coordinate with area/technical managers to address project resource and subcontracting requirements in a timely manner
- Maintain regular communications with the client including reporting on monthly status, safety incidents, and major issues together with scope and budget impacts
- Participate in problem project reviews, providing input about root cause issues and potential solutions to leadership and other stakeholders
- Provide regular project reporting and updates to clients, technical area, and business unit managers, identifying any emergent issues with scope, risk, and/or budget
- Monitor accounts receivable (AR) and unbilled revenue, working to address issues as needed
- Work with the Procurement Department to closeout procurements and/or supplier agreements as appropriate
- Complete formal project closeout activities, along with conducting and documenting a lessons-learned meeting with key project staff
- Remain current in the latest Project Management techniques and practices (PMAP)
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm
- Essential project management certification required (e.g., PMP, CAP-M)
- 10+ years of relevant post education experience in a project management role within our industry
- Proficient understanding of project delivery process within the A/E/C industry and strong background and experience in project management
- Highly proficient analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge the business and project management
- Highly proficient with critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of project management principles, with a sound understanding of intent, impact, and optimal outcomes
- Highly proficient interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively, persuasively, and tactfully with leadership, subcontractors, and employees at all levels of the organization
- Strong self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to the changing prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
- Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior-level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools
- Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing project deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity
- Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating resources and assertively directing consultants, suppliers, subcontractors, and others to consistently complete tasks competently and efficiently
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week
- Up to 25 % travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
- Master's Degree in Engineering
