[Remote] Legal AI Engineer
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Telon is an AI Native Legal Services company that integrates lawyers and engineers into client teams to enhance legal operations through intelligent automation. The Legal AI Engineer will collaborate closely with clients to translate legal processes into AI-driven workflows, ensuring the automation aligns with real-world legal practices.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with client legal and commercial teams to map existing processes (contract review, triage, drafting, compliance workflows, and the like) in granular, practical detail
- Design and build agentic workflows and AI agents that reflect how the work actually happens, including edge cases, escalation paths, and judgment calls
- Act as the client-facing consultant on engagements: run workshops, present findings, manage stakeholder expectations, and be the credible translator between legal and technical teams
- Iterate rapidly. Test agents against real matters and documents, gather feedback, refine logic and prompts, and re-deploy
- Document process and agent logic clearly enough that it is auditable and maintainable long after the engagement ends
- Identify where automation should, and should not, be applied, and be honest with clients about that
- Feed learnings back into Telon's internal playbooks and Outcomes Engine product
Skills
- A practical legal background: JD and bar admission, or equivalent legal training and hands-on experience of legal work
- In house experience is strongly preferred over pure law firm practice
- Genuinely process-driven
- A confident, polished client-facing manner
- A genuine appreciation of AI and legal technology
- Comfort with ambiguity and a fast-moving, early-stage environment
- The ability to work independently on client engagements while staying tightly looped in with the internal team
- Hands-on experience building agentic workflows or AI-driven automations
- Prior experience at a legal tech vendor, a legal services business, or a legal automation consultancy
- Basic technical fluency (prompt engineering, low-code or no-code tooling, or light scripting)
- Experience training or upskilling legal teams on new tools and ways of working
