[Remote] Insurance Accounting Specialist
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. California Correctional Health Care Services is seeking Insurance Accounting Specialists to support financial reporting, regulatory filings, and month-end close activities. The role requires strong analytical skills and involves preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and collaborating with auditors.
Responsibilities
- Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, researching variances, and preparing supporting analyses and reports within established deadlines
- Supporting quarterly and annual California Department of Insurance (CDI) financial statement filings and related reporting activities
- Provide variance analysis and financial insights to management
- Document and maintain accounting processes, procedures, and reporting guidelines
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to ensure timely delivery of requested information
Skills
- Equivalent to graduation from college, with specialization in accounting; or
- Completion of the equivalent of 45 semester units given by a collegiate-grade residence or correspondence institution, of which 24 units must include courses in financial accounting, managerial accounting, intermediate/advanced accounting, fund/governmental accounting, cost accounting, auditing, business law, computer applications/management information systems
- Successful completion of the State Fund Accounting Course administered by the Department of Finance, shall receive credit for three semester hours toward the required accounting courses
- Ability to multi-task and manage priorities to meet non-negotiable deadlines
- Detailed-oriented with a strong sense of urgency
- Proven ability to work as a collaborative team player
- CPA certification with a background in public accounting preferred; insurance accounting knowledge is a plus
- Experience with Oracle ERP is a plus
