About the Role

As an Associate Data Engineer at Southwest Airlines, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and maintenance of our data engineering pipeline. Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain the components of our data engineering pipeline and various container-based services orchestrated through UIs, SQL, PL/SQL, Python, and Shell, with code managed in GitHub and deployed through Jenkins.
• Work as part of our production support team to ensure the highest standards of product design that meet customer requirements.
• Test and troubleshoot data pipelines using test and live customer data, utilizing Jenkins, Python, and Java to automate these tests.
• Use dashboards for Kubernetes/OpenShift to analyze high-level issues and ensure services are reliable.
• Support performance tracking post-go-live and work with the performance team to transition support.
• Collaborate with data suppliers to clarify requirements and eliminate barriers.
• Drive automation into routine activities.
• Perform other work-related duties as directed by Employee's Chiefs.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must have:

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various products and services.
• Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, layouts, drawings, and models.
• The ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills In addition to the essential qualifications, the following skills and competencies are highly desirable:

• Experience with data engineering tools and technologies such as Python, SQL, PL/SQL, Shell, GitHub, and Jenkins.
• Knowledge of container-based services and orchestration tools like Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to parse logs to determine next actions.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
