[Remote] Associate Consultant, Infrastructure Resilience
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. WSP is a leading engineering and professional services firm in the U.S., currently seeking an Associate Consultant for their Resilience Services Practice. This role involves supporting quantitative risk and resilience modeling related to natural hazards and climate change, while collaborating with a diverse team of experts to deliver effective solutions for clients.
Responsibilities
- Support quantitative modeling of exposure, vulnerability, risks, and resilience associated with natural hazards and long-term climate change considerations for a range of clients in infrastructure sectors
- Participate in multiple projects, helping to deliver project commitments through effective coordination with internal colleagues, external resources and agencies, and consulting team partners
- Contribute to a diverse team of experts working to advance the Resilience Services Practice through effective data-driven analysis and decision-making
- Support clients and participate in client meetings to understand and meet requirements for projects
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, or other quantitative discipline
- 1 to 3 years of relevant quantitative risk and resilience experience in a management consulting or technical advisory firm, or an infrastructure sector organization, e.g., public agency (note: relevant research experience may count towards meeting the number of years of experience)
- Experience working with a spectrum of environmental, socio-economic, and infrastructure data sets and large datasets using programming language (e.g., MATLAB, Python, R)
- Attention to detail; commitment and skills to identify and detect errors; commitment to thorough quality reviews and checks; and commitment to accuracy, correctness, and excellence
- Experience communicating or helping to communicate orally and in writing technical analysis and results to non-technical audiences using data visualization and maps
- Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Post graduate education
- Experience in at least one infrastructure sector (e.g., transportation, energy, digital, water, urban)
- Experience developing or supporting the development of quantitative vulnerability functions (e.g., fragility functions, depth-damage functions, loss functions, downtime functions)
- In-depth understanding of probability theory
