Narrative Localization Translator

Project Type Narrative-heavy game localization with AI-assisted first-pass translation and human editorial review. The goal is not only linguistic correctness, but also natural narrative adaptation, emotional consistency, gameplay clarity, and franchise tone preservation. This role combines: - MT post-editing, - narrative localization, - terminology consistency, - contextual interpretation, and final editorial judgment. Main Responsibilities 1. Narrative Localization Review Review and improve translated strings to ensure that the target language sounds: - natural, - emotionally coherent, - contextually appropriate, - stylistically consistent, and aligned with the tone of the game. The task is not limited to correcting grammar or typos. The reviewer is expected to adapt translations where literal wording sounds unnatural, emotionally incorrect, overly machine-translated, or inconsistent with the narrative style. 2. Context Interpretation Many strings may contain incomplete or fragmented context. The translator/editor is expected to infer meaning using: - String IDs, - neighboring strings, - glossary, - gameplay logic, - recurring character behavior, - franchise terminology, - UI structure, and narrative patterns. If interpretation remains ambiguous, the translator should flag the issue instead of guessing silently. 3. Character Voice and Narrative Consistency The reviewer must preserve: - character personality, - emotional tone, - speech rhythm, - relationship dynamics, - recurring verbal patterns, and register consistency. Special attention should be paid to: - sarcasm, - horror atmosphere, - tension, - ritualistic language, - humor, - threats, - emotional escalation, and cinematic dialogue flow. 4. Terminology and Glossary Compliance The reviewer must follow the approved glossary and terminology rules. This includes: - franchise terminology, - platform terminology, - UI terms, - gameplay mechanics, - abilities, - item names, - locations, - lore concepts, - recurring phrases, and approved or forbidden variants. If glossary conflicts or inconsistencies are discovered, they should be reported clearly. The glossary must be treated as a production-critical deliverable, not only as a suggestion. 5. Platform and Certification Terminology The reviewer must preserve correct platform terminology where applicable. Examples: - controller terminology, - platform naming conventions, - PlayStation / Xbox / Nintendo requirements, - UI wording restrictions, and certification-sensitive phrases. 6. Fluency and MT Artifact Detection The reviewer should actively identify: - literal machine-translated phrasing, - unnatural syntax, - semantic calques, - inconsistent tone, - broken grammar, - mixed-language contamination, - untranslated fragments, - repetitive wording, and structurally awkward dialogue. The final text should read as professionally localized game content, not edited machine translation.
