Medical Support Assistant / Scheduler Location: Remote within 50 miles of Salt Lake City VA Medical Center Facility: Salt Lake City VA Medical Center / SLCHCS Address Reference: 500 S. Foothill Drive, Salt Lake City, UT 84148 Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM Mountain Time Job Type: Full-Time Contract Travel: Not authorized, except possible travel to closest VA facility for fingerprinting, PIV pickup, or IT equipment Citizenship Requirement: U.S. Citizen required Compensation: $38.00/ HR Position Summary We are seeking dependable and professional Medical Support Assistants (MSA) / Schedulers to support the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center. This position is responsible for appointment scheduling, patient communication, demographic updates, community care coordination, and administrative support in accordance with VA scheduling policies and procedures. This is a remote position; however, personnel must remain within the approved commuting area and may be required to complete VA onboarding, fingerprinting, PIV, background investigation, and training requirements before beginning work.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as an MSA scheduler/receptionist supporting VA patient scheduling and administrative services.
- Schedule, track, and coordinate patient appointments.
- Perform pre-appointment and post-appointment contacts as required.
- Screen and receive phone calls in a courteous and timely manner.
- Respond to telephone inquiries regarding delivery of services.
- Validate and update patient demographic information, including address, phone number, emergency contact, next of kin, and insurance information.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Minimum of 6 months of customer service experience.
- Must type at least 50 words per minute.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Basic medical terminology knowledge required.
- Must be proficient in oral and written English.
Preferred Experience
- Prior Medical Support Assistant, scheduler, receptionist, call center, healthcare administrative, or VA experience.
- Experience using CPRS, VistA, ISS, PCI, HSRM, PPMS, CTM, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Knowledge of VA scheduling processes and Community Care coordination.
- Strong customer service and patient communication skills.

Training and Onboarding Selected candidates must complete all required VA onboarding and training requirements before beginning work. This may include security forms, fingerprinting, background investigation, PIV processing, privacy and HIPAA training, VA information security training, CPRS/VistA-related training, and scheduling system training.
