Insurance Verification Specialist (Biologic/Immunotherapy)
Description This is a remote position and must be available to work and participate in training, meetings, and team collaboration during standard Eastern Time business hours. While all qualified candidates will be considered, candidates located in or aligned with the Eastern Time Zone are preferred due to training and operational support needs. Our comprehensive services include: Allergy and asthma evaluation and treatment Environmental, food, and drug allergy testing Pulmonary function testing High-risk food challenges Sublingual immunotherapy Aspirin desensitization Food immunotherapy Position Summary: The primary function of the Insurance Verification Specialist is to contact carrier groups to obtain eligibility information, ensuring that the most updated verifications are entered into the practice management software. This role ensures accurate billing, reduces claim denials and supports a smooth patient experience by communicating insurance information clearly and efficiently. Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: Verify patient insurance eligibility, coverage, benefits, deductibles, copayments and coinsurance. Contact insurance companies via phone, online portals or electronic verification systems to obtain accurate coverage information. Confirm prior authorization and referral requirements for scheduled services and procedures. Update patient insurance information in electronic medical records (EMR). Answer incoming calls from internal clinic offices in a professional manner. Identify and resolve discrepancies in insurance information before services are rendered. Maintain detailed documentation of verification activities and communications. Work closely with scheduling, billing, coding and clinical teams. Follow HIPPA guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality. Stay current on insurance policies, payer requirements and regulatory changes as provided by credentialing team. Other duties as assigned by the Revenue Cycle Operation Senior Manager.
Requirements
Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED Minimum of 1-3 years of related experience in insurance verification, medical billing, healthcare administration, or related field. Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid and Managed care plans. Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and medical billing software. Strong attention to detail and organization skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft office suite, including excel and outlook. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; lighting is in the standard range.
