Fika Web and Digital Experience Manager
Reports to: Director of Marketing & Communications Location: Remote; Africa preferred About Fika Fika partners with governments to build the systems that enable countries to independently plan, fund, and deliver rural transport infrastructure. We work in Rwanda, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Zambia, closing the gaps that keep communities cut off from healthcare, school, and markets. Our work is technical, rigorous, and rooted in the belief that every person has the right to get where they need to go, safely. Our website is how the world meets us. It needs to work as hard as we do. The Role We are looking for a Website & Digital Experience Manager to own fika.org: technically, aesthetically, and strategically. This is not a content entry role. We need someone who understands how websites work at a code level, can see what is not working and fix it, and can take a page from concept to live quickly without cutting corners on quality. The role starts with a significant lift: a comprehensive audit and rebuild of fika.org to improve functionality, user experience, and visual polish. After that foundation is set, the work shifts to ongoing maintenance, updates, and continuous improvement as Fika grows. What You’ll Do Phase 1: Website Revamp (Immediate Priority) Conduct a full audit of fika.org: functionality, UX, visual quality, content accuracy, and performance Rebuild and refine the site to be more seamless, professional, and aligned with Fika’s brand standards Overhaul the Resource Library: improve filtering logic, ensure all resources are properly uploaded and tagged, fix navigation and search behavior Update all staff team pages: add missing team members, verify and refresh bios, ensure photos and titles are current and accurate Identify and fix broken links, outdated content, and UX friction points across the site Improve page speed, mobile responsiveness, and accessibility Ongoing: Maintenance & Continuous Improvement Serve as the primary owner of fika.org: the person who keeps it accurate, fast, and polished Publish new content (blogs, news, photos, program updates) quickly and with attention to quality Add and improve site functionality over time as Fika’s programs and needs evolve Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline content workflows Collaborate with the AMP team and country communications staff on new pages and campaigns Monitor site performance and provide periodic reporting on key metrics What We’re Looking For Required Expert-level WordPress experience: you can do far more than install plugins and change text Strong coding skills: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP; comfortable working directly in code when needed Proven experience improving website UX: You understand user journeys, not just page layouts Experience building or expanding site functionality (custom post types, integrations, advanced filtering, forms, etc.) Comfort with automation tools and workflow optimization (Zapier, WP plugins, APIs, etc.) Sharp eye for design quality and brand consistency. You notice when something looks off, and you fix it Ability to take direction and content from non-technical colleagues and get it live quickly without losing quality Strong project management instincts; able to prioritize a heavy workload and communicate clearly about timelines Preferred Experience working with nonprofits, international development organizations, or mission-driven teams Familiarity with website analytics (Google Analytics 4, Search Console) and ability to translate data into action Experience with multilingual or multi-region websites Basic graphic design capability (Canva, Adobe, Figma) for resizing or touching up visual assets Experience working remotely with distributed, cross-cultural teams What Success Looks Like In the first 90 days, you will have completed a full site audit, identified the highest-priority fixes, and begun executing the revamp, with at least the Resource Library and staff pages substantially improved. By six months, fika.org will be noticeably better: faster, cleaner, more functional, and more accurately representing Fika’s work and team. Beyond that, you will be the person we trust to keep the site current and growing without close management.
