Since its inception in 2009, the foundation has grown significantly, now offering an annual cohort of students four-year scholarships in its Calahan League of College Scholars (CLoCS) Mentoring Program. About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and passionate Executive Director to oversee the foundation's programs, strategic planning, budgeting, and financial administration, as well as fundraising and development, and external relations. This is an external-facing role that requires building and cultivating relationships with key stakeholder groups, including the board, family, staff, volunteers, community members, donors, and students. The ideal candidate will be a highly relational and skilled project manager who enjoys bringing creativity and efficiency to their work and is energized by supporting students with scholarship funding to achieve their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Board to prepare agendas, provide written materials, and guide meetings to ensure the board is informed and motivated to commit to specific tasks
  • Collaborate with board leadership and virtual admin assistant on board development, volunteer recruitment, and committee organizing, bringing best practices to board and volunteer management
  • Oversee and project manage the foundation's annual scholarship program, including the application, interview, and selection process
  • Assess the structure, capacity, and overall health of the foundation's programs and events, identifying opportunities for growth and partnership
  • Develop a solid understanding of the foundation's goals and ideals, implementing strategies to ensure mission-aligned programs and events
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with board leadership, staff, and program/event volunteers
  • Anticipate challenges, resolve issues quickly, and manage crises effectively
  • Develop and implement a fundraising and development strategy, including annual, individual, and institutional giving, with key performance indicators for success
  • Identify and solicit viable prospects for giving, ensuring alignment between the foundation's work and prospective donors/funders
  • Oversee and project manage the foundation's annual scholarship and awards gala, focusing on continuous improvement, smooth operations, and increasing dollars raised
  • Serve as the primary external representative of the foundation, building and maintaining relationships across stakeholder groups
  • Attend events and conventions of relevance to the foundation, as needed
  • Draft, manage, and monitor an annual budget, ensuring the board receives timely, clear, and accurate financial data
  • Maintain a solid understanding of the foundation's overall health at all times

Essential Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising and development, with a proven track record of success
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholder groups
  • A solid understanding of budgeting and financial management, with experience in drafting and managing annual budgets
  • A passion for the foundation's mission and a commitment to supporting students with scholarship funding

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience in a leadership role, such as an Executive Director or Program Manager
  • A background in education or a related field, with a understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing high school and college students
  • Experience with grant writing and proposal development, with a track record of securing funding from individual and institutional donors
  • Knowledge of best practices in board and volunteer management, with experience in developing and implementing strategies to engage and retain board members and volunteers
