Data Governance Consultant
This is a remote position. - Define, document, and maintain data quality rules, business definitions, and validation standards for key reporting and analytics data assets - Use SQL, dbt, and Snowflake to profile data, investigate quality issues, validate transformations, and confirm data readiness for business use - Partner with BI teams to ensure dashboards, reports, metrics, and curated datasets are supported by trusted and well-understood data - Monitor recurring data quality checks, identify anomalies, document root causes, and coordinate remediation with data owners and technical teams - Maintain metadata, data lineage, business glossaries, and data issue logs to improve transparency and usability of data assets - Promote data governance and stewardship best practices by educating stakeholders on data standards, ownership, and proper use of certified data
Requirements
Required Qualifications - Experience in data stewardship, data governance, data quality, business intelligence, analytics, or data management - Strong SQL skills with experience profiling data, validating business rules, researching discrepancies, and supporting reporting accuracy - Hands-on experience with dbt, including data tests, documentation, lineage, model review, and transformation validation - Experience working with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms - Understanding of data governance, metadata management, data lineage, data quality dimensions, and data lifecycle concepts Technical Skills - Advanced SQL for data analysis, reconciliation, profiling, exception identification, and validation of reporting data - Working knowledge of Snowflake objects, data structures, query performance considerations, and access patterns - Experience using dbt tests, source freshness checks, documentation, exposures, and lineage to support trusted data delivery - Ability to translate business rules into data quality checks, validation queries, and repeatable monitoring processes - Familiarity with BI reporting datasets, semantic layers, KPIs, dimensional models, and curated analytics tables - Experience documenting data definitions, transformation logic, ownership, lineage, and known data limitations - Strong analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate data issues across source, transformation, and reporting layers - Comfort working with ticketing, issue tracking, version control, and collaborative documentation tools Preferred Qualifications - Experience supporting data governance programs, data councils, or domain-based data ownership models - Familiarity with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker - Experience with data observability, data catalog, data quality, or metadata management tools - Knowledge of data privacy, security, compliance, and access control concepts - Exposure to DataOps practices, version control, release management, and change control for analytics assets - Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and partnering with product managers, analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders
