Azure Migration Project Manager
Our client, in the transportation industry, is seeking an Azure Migration Technical Project Manager to join their team! This is a 6-12 month contract to start! Location: Remote - preference for Texas candidates but open to anyone in the US Duration: 6-12 months - after this project is completed, can shift to new projects and continue to extend Open to W2 or C2C (1099) Role Summary: Azure Technical Project Manager (Migration Focus) We’re targeting a hands-on Technical Project Manager who can operate deep in the weeds of an Azure migration—not just a coordinator, but someone who understands infrastructure and cloud well enough to drive execution and communicate confidently up to the CIO. What This Person Really Is This is NOT a pure PM and NOT a Cloud Architect. Sweet Spot
- Technical PM with strong Azure infrastructure/migration experience
- Think: “Architect-lite” who can validate, challenge, and direct work (not design everything from scratch)
What They’ll Be Doing
- Driving an Azure migration program (legacy → new environment)
- Executing CAF (Cloud Adoption Framework) – already designed, now being implemented
- Managing migration waves + sequencing (parallel streams, dependencies)
- Owning complex, multi-stream work (infra, networking, apps, data)
- Translating technical progress into clear updates for CIO/executives
- Navigating convoluted infrastructure + ops-heavy environments
Key Environment Context
- CAF = early stage (framework built, not fully rolled out)
- Discovery already done
- Heavy involvement from networking + operations directors
- Large emphasis on:
- Dependencies
- Migration coordination
- Infra + ops alignment
✅ Must-Haves (Non-Negotiables)
- Azure Migration Experience
- Has led or driven real cloud migrations (not just exposure)
- Technical Depth (Infra + Cloud)
- Understands networking, ops, Azure architecture concepts
- Can follow and challenge engineers (without doing hands-on build)
- Strong Project Leadership
- Highly organized across complex workstreams
- Can manage migration waves, dependencies, sequencing
- Executive Communication
- Comfortable reporting up to CIO
- Can translate technical → business clearly
⚙️ Nice-to-Have Signals
- Exposure to Terraform / IaC (conceptual understanding is fine)
- Experience with CAF implementations
- Background in Infrastructure / Ops environments (big plus)
What This Is NOT
- ❌ Not a Scrum Master / Jira ticket PM
- ❌ Not a pure Cloud Architect (no heavy design ownership)
- ❌ Not a junior PM—needs to operate independently in ambiguity
Ideal Candidate Backgrounds
- Technical PM from enterprise cloud migration programs
- Former infra engineer / sys engineer / cloud engineer → moved into PM
- Azure-focused PMs from consulting, MSPs, or large enterprise transformations
